Miss America Contestants Take To YouTube For Online Video Contest

By Megan O'Neill

The 2012 Miss America Pageant broadcasts live from Las Vegas on January 14, but the show has already started on YouTube.  This year, each of the 53 Miss America contestants have created their very own YouTube video, showing off their style and personality, and fans are invited to vote for their favorite finalist.  I know you’re probably thinking to yourself, “Miss America videos? Srsly?”  But trust me—these videos are more entertaining than you think.

Now, in the past beauty pageant contestants have gotten a pretty bad rap on YouTube, thanks mostly to Miss Teen South Carolina’s 2007 maps snafu. I’m not sure if the Miss America 2012 submissions are going to turn this bad rap around, but they sure are fun to watch!  Here are a few of our favorites:

Miss Oregon, Caroline McGowan, goes all out with an Old Spice parody.  “Do you want a Miss America that is ready to jump out of the shower and to your aid when disaster strikes because she’s trained by the American Red Cross in disaster preparedness?” Why yes, I think I do!

Miss California, Noelle Freeman, is all about social media sites like Facebook and Twitter and she really knows her way around an iPad!

Miss Idaho, Genevieve Nutting, lives an active lifestyle, is active in her community, and she loves potatoes.

And finally, check out Schroeder’s…oh wait, I mean Miss Kentucky’s video!

You can watch all 53 contestant’s videos on the Miss America website and vote for your favorite on the site, or on the Miss America Organization Facebook page.  Voting is open through January 12 at 11:59 PM PST.  The Miss America contestant that receives the highest number of votes will be chosen to be a finalist in the Miss America Pageant.  So who’s your favorite Miss America contestant?
