Microsoft Denies Zune "Copyright Cop" Reports

More digital rights management madness: Microsoft issued a statement on Wednesday denying that there was any agreement to filter content on the Zune, according to Beyond Binary blogger Ina Fried. This is in response to a report in Wednesday’s New York Times that had suggested future versions of the Zune might come with a “tiny cop capable of catching digital lawbreakers.” The article said that the company was reportedly working with NBC to devise such a plan to fight against BitTorrented versions of shows like Heroes, 30 Rock, and more.

“Microsoft has no plans or commitments to implement content filtering features in the Zune family of devices as part of our content distribution deal with NBC,” the software maker said in a statement.
