Michael Kors Celebrates Facebook Like No. 5M With Limited-Edition Shoe For Fans

Luxury accessories designer Michael Kors marked reaching the 5 million-like milestone with its release Wednesday of an exclusive, limited-edition shoe available only to fans of its Facebook page.

The shoe will be available online via Facebook, as well as in Michael Kors stores in New York (Rockefeller Center), Paris (Rue Saint-Honoré), London (Regent Street), Taipei (Taipei 101 Mall), and Tokyo (Omotesando), with customers wishing to purchase the shoes in stores being asked to provide a special password found only on Facebook.

The limited-edition shoe is a specially designed version of the Fulton High-Top sneaker, featuring a graphic zebra print and silver-tone hardware.

During Facebook’s fourth-quarter earnings call, Michael Kors was one of the advertisers on the social network mentioned by Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg, who mentioned that the company used the social network to promote its launch of a new line of sneakers, resulting in a 16-point jump in awareness of the product, or 5.8 million people who otherwise would not have been aware of the new release.
