Facebook is developing a stand-alone version of its Messenger application for Apple’s iPad tablet, according to reports.

9to5Mac reported that the early beta version of Messenger for the iPad is virtually identical to the social network’s iPhone app, with features including one-to-one messaging, group chat, push notifications, and pinpointing friends’ locations on a map.

Mobile has been a priority at Facebook of late, as 9to5Mac reported that the social network is also developing an updated iPhone app with support for Skype video chat, as well as an update of Messenger for Android.

Readers: Are you excited about the prospect of a stand-alone version of Messenger for the iPad, rather than having to go through the Facebook app?
