The social network announced in a Facebook for Business post that as part of the release of its new ads application-programming interface, CPC will only register what it referred to as “link clicks”:

  • Clicks to visit other websites.
  • Call-to-action clicks that go to other websites, such as “shop now.”
  • Clicks to install applications.
  • Clicks to Facebook canvas apps.
  • Clicks to view videos on other websites.

Facebook said the change will take effect Wednesday for advertisers that buy ads via the Ads API, which has been updated to version 2.4,
