Play: McDonald’s Launches Interactive “I Spy” Game On YouTube

By Megan O'Neill

McDonald’s Australia wants to play I Spy with you!  Earlier this month they launched an interactive I Spy game at and they want you to find and click on all your favorite McDonald’s characters, from Grimmace to the Hamburglar, Birdie and Ronald.

The McDonalds I Spy game, ‘Time To Spy With McDonald’s’, is a promotion for the in-store I Spy campaign that launched earlier this week, giving Australian McDonalds-goers the opportunity to win $50 million worth of food and prizes.

How does the game work?  Basically, they start off telling you which McDonald’s character you are looking for and then, when you see them, you click on them within the YouTube player via annotations.  If you are right, you move on to the next video.  If you are wrong, you’ll see an, ‘Oh No! You Missed!’ message and you’ll be directed to try again.

While the idea is pretty fun and the videos are very cool looking, I’ve got to say that the McDonald’s I Spy game is hard! The character that you are looking for will only pop up for an instant and, in my case, by the time I found Grimmace, the Hamburglar, Birdie and Ronald, my reaction time was too slow to actually click on them.  I had to go back and pause the video to give myself enough time.

Check out the game for yourself, starting with the video below, and let us know what you think.  Did you manage to find all the characters before time ran out or, like me, was your reaction time just too slow?
