My memories of Thanksgiving as a child includes watching Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Besides being pretty much the only thing on TV at that time in the morning, I was pretty much forbidden to change the channel when the parade was on TV. As seems to be the case for almost every major event these days, there is a mobile app for it available now for the iPhone and Android smartphones.
The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade app is particularly good for those who live in New York and plan to attend the parade in person. The app works with Clingle, which is a social check-in service that works in New York, to enable users to track marching bands, cheerleading troupes, and Santa’s float, as they make their way along the parade route. If you want to be sure to see a particular band, you can use this app to know when it will be near your location.
One tip, if you plan on tracking one of these groups in the parade, you will want to sign up for the Clingle service before the parade. I had difficulty trying to sign up using the Android app, so it may be best to go to their web site and sign up before you head out to watch the parade.
The Thanksgiving Day Parade app provides an overview of all of the performance groups, bands, baloons, floats, and celebrities that will be in the parade. On the day of the parade you can use the app to see the official line up, so if you are working on Turkey dinner and want to be sure to not miss something, you can check to see when there are in the parade.
The app is developed by MyCityWay, who makes guides for several U.S. cities, including New York. In addition to the specific information about the parade, the app includes location and direction information for dining, coffee, transit, and restrooms near your location. If I were in New York to attend the parade, I would be sure to have this app on my phone.
