We’ve officially entered a new digital age for the travel industry.
Loews Hotels and Resorts has launched “social reservations,” allowing travelers to book rooms at 16 of its 19 properties via Twitter.
Interested? Here’s how it works.
Tweet to @Loews_Hotels with the hashtag #BookLoews to express interest in a room, after which a Loews travel planner will pick up the dialogue and “tweet a link to a secure chat conversation through WebsiteAlive to process payment information,” reports USA Today.
Loews kicked off Social Reservations with a fun promotion, offering the first 140 Twitter users to book a reservation through the program on November 19, launch day, a discounted rate of $140/night.

Will the new Twitter-enabled booking system actually make money for Loews?
Jimmy Suh, senior vice president of e-commerce and distribution at Loews, told USA Today,
“We absolutely feel confident that it increases the value proposition of Loews, because it enables the person to make a Loews transaction as part of a platform that is part of their daily activity.”
The Loews Twitter account has also added a shout out about the program to its Twitter bio: “Tweet yourself to Loews Hotels!”
