I just received my special invite to Lady Gaga’s new social network, called Little Monsters, and to say it took inspiration from Pinterest would be like saying Kesha was mildly influenced by Katy Perry and Lady Gaga. The site has based itself on Pinterest in its entirety, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a fun, niche place for Lady Gaga fans to share interesting images and ideas. Check out my impressions below.
I’m not the biggest Lady Gaga fan in the world, but it’s interesting to see the variety of posts available on the site. As I mentioned earlier, the site is like Pinterest, so for those of you who aren’t up to date, this means that Little Monsters is an image sharing site, where users are able to easily share images and post them to their boards. The best images are shown in home feeds, and so at a glance you can see what images other Gaga-ites are obsessed with.
As I mentioned, it’s interesting to see that Gaga’s fans love her sense of style and post a lot of images of that, but there are plenty of Reddit-inspired jokes and congratulatoins on her accolades. A sampling below shows hundreds of upvotes on two images, one being Stefani Germanotta (I’ll tell you who that is in a second) and the second being Lady Gaga when she was on the Simpsons.
So in case you didn’t know, that brunette on the left is in fact Lady Gaga before she was famous. Stefani went through a complete metamorphosis to get where she is today, and her supportive fans applaud the growth.
One of the features the site is desperately missing is the ability to repost someone else’s content — a key feature to Pinning. Users are able to thumbs up and comment on posts, and then comments can be voted on, but no reposting. Hopefully that will be included at some point soon.
Overall, though, this is the next stage of what used to be a mail-in fan club or website fan club. Creating a private social network for fans of an artist enables people to be surrounded by other die hard fans and is conducive to conversations that couldn’t be had elsewhere. Check it out and let us know what you think in the comments below.
