LinkedIn Sends Congratulatory Emails to Owners of Most-Viewed Profiles

Shortly after revealing its year-end results for 2012, LinkedIn is celebrating 200 million members by sending out emails to thank (and rank) the users whose profiles had the most views.

In yesterday’s fourth quarter earnings call, LinkedIn executives reported record profits for the professional networking site and a growing user base of 200 million members.

LinkedIn’s Ada Chen Rekhi announced in a separate blog post that day that the emails would soon be coming to “many who have been instrumental in helping us reach this milestone to recognize their part in our journey.”

The emails have arrived with a subject line that reads, “Congratulations! You have one of the top _% most viewed LinkedIn profiles for 2012.” 

Inside, there’s a link to a letter from LinkedIn executive Deep Nishar that also includes an infographic with statistics on LinkedIn’s user base in 2012. The most-viewed profile in the past year was that of President Barack Obama, which received 526,270 views.

LinkedIn is encouraging email recipients to share the news on Twitter with a pre-written tweet. So far, we’ve seen tweets from the top 1 percent, the top 5 percent, and the top 10 percent on the microblogging site. We’ve reached out to LinkedIn for more information.
