Line Corporation is celebrating the third birthday of its Line mobile messaging app, and has today announced the Line family of apps has crossed one billion total downloads worldwide. In addition to the original Line app, 14 of these “family apps,” like Line Camera and Line Bubble, have passed 10 million downloads each, with Line Camera having more than 90 million downloads alone.

Since release in June of 2011, the Line messaging app has undergone significant changes. Starting with the addition of free calls and stickers in October 2011, the app has gone on to see the introduction of a premium calling service, which allows users to make domestic and international calls to landlines and mobile phones for a price. The platform now also supports video calls, and has grown to over 470 million users worldwide.

The company’s family apps are all fully integrated with Line for additional functionality. In Line Camera, for instance, users can take pictures with the app and then share them back to the original messaging platform.

Third-party developers have also embraced the massive messaging app. For instance, Gameloft released Line Let’s Golf on the platform last December. Check back soon for more.
