Kobojo’s Mutants: Genetic Gladiators has taken off on Facebook, as players are tasked with growing an army of powerful mutants and taking them into battle. Players are mutant wranglers of sorts, working to earn corporate sponsorships and complete campaign battles to become famous in the game’s virtual world.

Mutants can be bred to create new mutants, and babies can take on the traits of their combined parents. For instance, one robotic and one zombie mutant could create an undead robot mutant baby. Tasks like breeding or incubating the infant mutants take time, but players can speed up this process spending Gold, the game’s premium currency.

During battles, players can employ strategy by taking advantage of the “gene” affiliation of each mutant. Like elemental affinities in other games, these genes have a strength and a weakness, which affects their offensive and defensive capabilities against each type of enemy.

Battles are turn-based, and players can use their friends as tag team partners via asynchronous social play. Players earn coins and other rewards as they successfully complete battles, while mutants themselves earn experience points to become stronger over time.

Coins can be reinvested into the game by purchasing new homes for mutants or land expansions to hold these homes, as well as simply purchasing new mutants in the store. The game supports limited time events, including a Halloween event that encourages users to spend premium currency on a Jack O’Lantern mutant.

While the campaign mode offers linear progression through the game’s story, players can also focus on completing quests for additional rewards. A global tournament feature is unlocked at Level 6, and the game is further monetized via the purchase of premium items in the store.

Mutants: Genetic Gladiators is now available to play for free on Facebook. It currently has over 1.5 million monthly active players, according to our app tracking service AppData.
