King Launches Blossom Blast Saga on iOS, Android

Candy Crush Saga company King (which was recently acquired by Activision) has announced the release of Blossom Blast Saga, a line-drawing puzzle game, on iOS and Android. The game challenges players to grow flower buds into blooms by drawing lines to connect three or more matching buds in a single line. As players make matches with flowers, all but one of the flowers used in the chain disappear from the screen, and the final flower grows in size. Buds will continue to grow and, when they're large enough, will bloom and leave the board when used in a future match. The game uses a growth mechanic similar to that of King’s Pepper Panic Saga, as these blooming flowers will cause nearby flowers to grow one stage as well, potentially setting off chain reactions of additional blooming flowers. Blossom Blast Saga features 120 levels at launch, each with a different goal. For instance, some levels ask players to earn a large number of points, while others challenge users to clear special ‘big buds’ by either using them in matches or blooming other flowers next to them. To be specific, these big buds each contain a number, which decreases as players use them in matches or bloom flowers next to them. When the number reaches zero, the big bud blooms and causes an explosion which will grow nearby flowers. Stages become more complicated as players progress, with the addition of challenges like broken flower pots and glass tiles. Specifically, players can clear broken flower pots from the board by making matches or blooms next to them, while glass tiles are cleared by creating matches with the flowers trapped underneath each tile, or creating blooms nearby. Gamers have access to power-ups to help them complete stages. As one example, a shovel can be used to instantly remove one flower or obstacle from the screen. In addition, players can create exploding super blooms by creating a long line of flower buds on a single move. The number of individual buds required to form a super bloom varies depending on the sizes of buds used. These super blooms will grow many nearby flowers when created. Players have a limited number of moves to complete each stage. If they fail to complete the level before running out of moves, they will lose a life. These lives recharge automatically over time or can be purchased with gold bars, the game’s premium currency. Lives can also be sent between friends via Facebook connectivity. By logging into Facebook, users can also compare their high score on each level with their friends' high scores.
