VP Joe Biden To Address Gun Control In Google Hangout Tomorrow

By Megan O'Neill

Following the tragic Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, the issue of gun control has been on everyone’s minds.  Tomorrow Vice President Joe Biden will address the gun control issue head-on on YouTube and Google+.  Biden will host a “Fireside Hangout”—a modern day take on FDR’s famous radio “Fireside Chats,” and viewers can tune in live on the White House’s Google+ page or YouTube channel.

According to a post on the Google Official Blog, Biden’s Fireside Hangout is just one in a series of conversations with top Administration officials about important issues facing the country and its citizens.  “The White House will continue to host Hangouts with key members of the President’s cabinet on a wide range of second term priorities.”

Tomorrow’s chat on reducing gun violence will begin streaming live at 1:45 pm ET.  Biden will be joined by participants including YouTuber Phil DeFranco and Guy Kawasaki, with PBS NewsHour’s Hari Sreenivasan serving as moderator.  Ramya Raghavan of Google+ Politics writes, “If you’d like to suggest a question, just follow the participants on Google+, and look for posts about tomorrow’s Hangout.”

Phil DeFranco and Guy Kawasaki are interesting choices for the participants of this Fireside Hangout – I would have expected to see someone with a clearer tie to the gun control and gun violence issue, so it will be interesting to see what DeFranco and Kawasaki will add to the discussion.

Will you be tuning in to tomorrow’s Fireside Hangout?  What are you hoping to hear from Biden?
