A Social Network About Nothing: Jerry Seinfeld Enjoys Rapid Facebook Success

By David Cohen

JerrySeinfeldFB650Comedian Jerry Seinfeld finally joined Facebook in late October, and he has more than doubled the likes on his page over the course of two months. Paul Beddoe-Stephens, who works on strategic partnerships for entertainment at the social network, explained why Seinfeld has been so successful in a Facebook Media blog post:

After a series of discussions initially kicked off in 2013, Jerry Seinfeld officially joined Facebook and Instagram in late October.

In two months, he’s grown the number of likes on his page by more than 100 percent. This is outstanding growth, and Seinfeld has earned it all with genuine and engaging content.

Here are some highlights:

On Oct. 23, Seinfeld posted a sneak peek of the upcoming season of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. The clip, uploaded directly to Facebook, was watched more than 900,000 times — which outperformed other platforms considerably.

To promote the show’s first episode, Seinfeld tagged Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee guest star Kevin Hart in a photo. The post received more than 330,000 likes and 11,000 shares, and the fifth season of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee premiered to the best numbers it’s ever had.

On Dec. 23, Jerry shared a Festivus gift — a bonus content clip with Michael Richards — created with a custom intro just for Facebook native video.

Seinfeld’s smart use of both Facebook and Instagram combines the best of what the two platforms bring to the game: helping reach new audiences, building awareness and helping him connect with other public figures and his fans. He’s a terrific lighthouse example for other public figures, and we look forward to seeing what he’ll bring to the platform.
