The New York Times dominates the newspaper sector when it comes to Twitter followers, tallying more than 3 million (3,062,437, to be exact) as of March 31, while no other newspaper cracked the 1 million mark, according to a report by Dylan Stableford for TheWrap.com’s Media Alley.

Stableford said he only included U.S.-based newspapers, and he only incorporated their main Twitter feeds, not counting those of sections, blogs, or individual writers or columnists.

The rest of the top five: the Chicago Tribune’s “more gentlemanly” ColonelTribune at 829,742, The Wall Street Journal at 748,933, The Washington Post at 388,321, and the Los Angeles Times at 121,956.
