Hulu Plus Optimizes App For Windows 8 In Anticipation Of Friday’s Launch

Hulu Plus subscribers that have been anxiously awaiting the launch of Windows 8 this Friday now have something else to look forward to as well—Hulu has been working on a new Hulu Plus app that is optimized for the Windows user interface and it will go public alongside Windows 8 this Friday, October 26.

Patrick Srail, Senior Product Manager at Hulu, writes on the Hulu blog, “The new Hulu Plus app leverages core Microsoft design principles with our touch-optimized experience.  The UI is simple and clean and puts the most relevant content first, creating a visually immersive experience in the most engaging way.”

Check out the video tutorial below to find out more about the new app’s design and functionality.

Like the new Windows UI, the Hulu Plus app has a tile-based view, which makes it easy for users to search for and discover shows.  Additionally, Srail writes that, “The Hulu Plus app on Windows puts key features into the app bar to keep the focus on content.”

Selecting on-screen images make sharing, adding to your queue and playing content quick and easy, and selecting shows will allow you to ‘Pin’ a show, adding it to your Start screen for easy access.  When new episodes of pinned shows become available, they’ll even appear directly on the Hulu Plus app icon so you’ll be the first to find out about them.

Additionally, the new app incorporates a feature called ‘Snap View’ that lets you watch your Hulu Plus content on a small screen while using other apps at the same time.  To switch to Snap View, drag your finger from the top middle to the center of your screen, then to the far left or right to shrink and snap the video into place.

Hulu Plus comes preloaded on select Sony Windows 8 and Acer computers and will also be available for Windows 8 devices through the Windows Store starting this Friday.  Check out a full list of supported devices here.
