How To Add Read-Aloud To Your iBook In The iBookstore

Back in June, Apple released Version 1.3 of iBooks (the latest version), which added a read-aloud feature for books in the iBookstore. The narration feature is generally used in children’s books to help young readers learn to read.

Apple explains how you can create such a book in an email sent to publishers this week.

It reads: “You can create a Read Aloud book by adding Media Overlays to a Fixed Layout book. A Media Overlay is an EPUB-specific Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language (SMIL) file that can be used to sync audio with text, allowing readers to follow along as the words are read aloud.
