How the Inauguration App Collects Data
The Presidential Inauguration Committee came under scrutiny this week after releasing an app, which Politico revealed gave the committee permission to share user data “with candidates, organizations, groups or causes that we believe have similar political viewpoints, principles or objectives.”
While you can use the app to watch videos and view maps, it also asks users to share their phone numbers and location data to use other functions of the app. Politico’s report revealed that by sharing this data, users could potentially be adding their names to a mobile marketing list.
