Hollywood Slots review

Hollywood Slots is a new Facebook casino game from virtual gambling specialist Product Madness. The game was the No. 19 top gainer by MAU earlier this week. Hollywood Slots is a fairly traditional slot machine simulator for the social network. Players have five different virtual machines to choose from, though only one is available from the beginning of the game. Others must be unlocked through earning "stars" -- these are acquired simply by playing other machines repeatedly, similar to how other slot machine games incorporate an experience level mechanic. Gaining stars also unlocks other "game modes" -- though in actuality, these are simply increases in the maximum bet allowed on each machine rather than a new way to play. Playing each machine is the same as every other slot machine on Facebook -- players purchase various "win lines" with their bet, spin the reels and hope to get a payout. Occasionally, matching certain symbols will start a "bonus game" which differs according to each machine, but for the most part the game is a case of staring at the screen and clicking "Spin" repeatedly. It may have been a case of random luck, but when tested, the machines appeared to pay out significantly more often -- and in greater amounts -- when using smaller bets, meaning that players who play for higher stakes will probably find themselves running out of money before long. While Hollywood Slots' gameplay is completely unremarkable and virtually indistinguishable from all the other slot machine games on Facebook, one particularly noteworthy aspect is its glitzy, polished presentation. Each machine features high-quality sound effects and music and a variety of smooth, attractive animations when winning, and the bonus games are similarly well-illustrated with beautiful graphics that lend a sense of "occasion" to the proceedings. Hollywood Slots' social features are fairly limited. Players are occasionally nagged to add friends via an obtrusive popup, and once added may be showered with gifts every day. It's also possible for players to put up a Timeline post requesting coins from other prospective players. Aside from this, however, there is little incentive to play with friends -- there is nothing like the competitive team play of Product Madness' earlier title Team Slots, nor the fun friend management of 6waves/Large Animal Games' Lucky Cruise. Hollywood Slots' only real redeeming, distinguishing feature is its beautiful presentation. It looks and sounds great, which may keep some players interested for longer than they might otherwise be, but ultimately those who find little fulfilment in clicking "spin" over and over again will leave disappointed. The game will doubtless retain an audience of dedicated virtual slots players, but Hollywood Slots does little to retain new users or make "converts" to the cause. As such, it's difficult to recommend checking this game out for any reason other than to marvel at the excellent graphics and sound.
