HarperCollins To Close Social Network

HarperCollins is closing its social networking site BookArmy this month. The site, which launched in March 2009, lets readers discuss, review and recommend titles. It will close on December 21st.

The Bookseller has more: “In an email to members today [9th December], the BookArmy team said: “The decision has been made to close the site, after facing strong competition from similar sites and fewer advertising opportunities in such a tough economic climate.”

In the past couple of years, social networking sites have been popular among publishers.
