HarperCollins Responds To eBook Lending Policy

HarperCollins has responded to the backlash they have received since they made checking their eBooks out through libraries more difficult.

GalleyCat explains: “The publisher decided that eBooks can only be checked out 26 times by library patrons until they expire, setting off a wave of Twitter protests and a call for boycott.”

Today, HarperCollins president of sales Josh Marwell wrote an open letter on the publisher’s blog explaining their new eBook lending policy for libraries.

Here’s an excerpt from the letter: “It is projected that the installed base of e-reading devices domestically will reach nearly 40 million this year.
