Google Will Retire Latitude on August 9, Focus Location-Sharing on Google+

After excluding Latitude from the latest version of Google Maps for Android and (soon) iOS, Google announced today that it will retire the location-sharing and check-in service, gently nudging users to share their locations on Google+ instead.

On its support page, the company explained that while users’ Latitudes friends lists will be deleted and their check-ins removed from all mobile and web versions of the service, similar sharing features are available on the  Google+ Android app and, soon, on the iOS apps as well.
