Google Begins Testing Its Augmented-Reality Glasses (The New York Times / Bits) Yesterday, Google gave people a clearer picture of its secret initiative called Project Glass. The glasses are the company’s first venture into wearable computing. The glasses are not yet for sale. Google will, however, be testing them in public. Cnet A video of this augmented-reality experiment was posted by Google on YouTube showing someone wearing the glasses as he made his way around a variety of Manhattan venues, receiving up-to-the-minute updates as information streamed into his glasses. The Wall Street Journal / Digits Instant walking routes on maps, video chat, voice notes and a camera may be included in the glasses, Google suggests. Wired / Epicenter It’s also a timely means for Google to remind the public that its engineers have visions that transcend the current spats with Facebook, Apple, Microsoft, the DOJ and the European Union. Randi Zuckerberg Is Doing a Bravo Reality Show (Betabeat) Ms. Zuckerberg’s show is part of Bravo’s attempt to better position itself as an innovative channel dedicated to digitally savvy, breakthrough programming. CNNMoney According to Bravo's site, the show "captures the intertwining lives of young professionals on the path to becoming Silicon Valley's next great success stories." TechCrunch As if one weren’t enough, it looks like the startup world will also be profiled in a new reality show featuring Ben Huh and his team at ICanHazCheezburger, appropriately called Huh. The Verge Besides the interface changes, the biggest difference will probably be Aviary's cross-platform compatibility: its HTML5 base means it will work well on tablets like the iPad. GeekWire Aviary replaces Picnik, the photo-editing service that Flickr has been using up to this point. Google, which acquired Seattle startup Picnik two years ago, plans to shutter the service later this month as part of the search giant’s push to streamline its business. Draw Something Hits Mobile Game Record As It Passes 50M Downloads (VentureBeat) In just 50 days, the title has become the fastest-growing original mobile game of all time. The game regained its top spot as the No. 1 paid app in the App Store, retaking the title from Angry Birds Space. Ceglia’s Team Dismisses Facebook’s Dismissal Request (AllFacebook) The legal team for Paul Ceglia fired back at Facebook’s request to dismiss an ongoing lawsuit claiming that their client owns one-half of the social network, stating, among other things, that the plaintiffs were not given comparable time for discovery. Trekkies to President Obama: "Yes We Vul-Can" (The Daily Dot) Over 35,000 people like a photo of Obama posing in the Oval Office with Nichelle Nichols, the actress who famously portrayed Uhura in the original Star Trek television series. Smiling, the two each hold up a hand, making the show’s famous “Vulcan salute.” The photo went viral quickly after George Takei, a fellow alum of the the original Star Trek series, posted it to his extremely popular Facebook page. Instagram For Android: There Goes The Neighborhood (Buzzfeed FWD) The iPhone users who care about the fact they have an iPhone have always thought they were better than Android users, at least a little. Having the photo service, Instagram, be totally exclusive to them was just affirmation of that. But now the private photo sharing party where everybody makes supercool images all the time is on Android. The Instagram party's been busted. The last app deficiency marking Android as a second-class citizen is gone.
