Google eBookstore To Enter Australian Market Next Year

Google has plans to expand its eBookstore to Australia. Sydney-based online retailer Booktopia will be the first in the country to sell eBooks through Google’s platform.

The Canberra Times reports: “Australian book lovers will be able buy ebooks through several local booksellers’ websites, including Booktopia’s, once Google’s eBooks platform reaches this market – which could be as early as the first half of next year. Publishers and booksellers may also work together to offer bundling of print and digital editions of certain titles.”

According to the Canberra Times article, Booktopia chief executive, Tony Nash, said that he chose Google after reviewing other eBook platform options including Overdrive and Ingram Interactive.
