Google Cuts 100+ Employees, Closes Offices

The AP reports Google is closing three engineering offices and cutting 100 recruiters as the company slows the hiring of new workers.

Google, which didn’t exist even 14 years ago, has more than 24,000 employees worldwide. “Given the state of the economy, we recognized that we needed fewer people focused on hiring,” Laszlo Bock, a Google vice president, wrote in a blog posting late Wednesday announcing the layoffs.

Google said it is also closing engineering offices in Austin, Texas; Trondheim, Norway and Lulea, Sweden, a step the company said would affect 70 workers, some of whom will be kept on in other capacities.
