Google acquires popular third-party email client Sparrow

Google has acquired the popular third-party email service and iOS app Sparrow, according to a blog post on the Sparrow website.

Sparrow started its life as an alternative mail application for the Mac and released the iOS version of its client in March. Popular for its minimalist interface and its high quality Gmail integration, its easy to speculate why Google acquired the startup, especially considering the issues the company has had bringing its own Gmail app to iOS.
