Global Social Network Surges, Facebook Now on Top

MediaPost reports that a new comScore Media Metrix survey shows that Facebook and other social networking sites are seeing rapid growth worldwide, mostly due to a surge in social media activity outside the U.S., particularly in emerging regions.

One big change: Facebook is now the world’s biggest social network, surpassing the stagnant MySpace around the globe. In fact, growth is pretty stagnant in the maturing U.S. market, where Facebook grew 38%—a nice number until you realize that they grew 153% in the rest of the world in the same period (the year ending June 2008).
