Your Cat Video Could Win $15,000 In ‘The Friskies’ Cat Video Awards

By Megan O'Neill

Think your cat has what it takes to hold his (or her) ground in a cat video competition?  Friskies is sponsoring a cat video awards show called The Friskies (of course!) and they’re weeding out the best of the best in four cat video categories—cat behavior, cat comedy, indoor cat adventure and catchball.  The winner in each category takes home $2,500 and one grand prize winner walks away with a whopping $15,000!

Submissions for The Friskies are open until this Friday afternoon, October 12, at 12:00:01 p.m. ET.  Just head over to and provide the title, director, city, state, category, your cat’s name, a still image of the video and a URL to your video on either Vimeo or YouTube.  If your video isn’t online you can upload it directly through the contest submission page.

A panel of judges, including actor/comedian Michael Showalter, artist Wayne White, publisher and designer Karen Nichols, and owner of the Alamo Draft House Tim League, will select the winners.  The awards ceremony will be live-streamed in November, complete with musical routines about cats (woohoo!).

Friskies brand manager, Shaun Belongie, told GigaOM’s Liz Shannon Miller, “When we hear from cat owners, we hear a real excitement you don’t normally hear from cat owners about their brands.  We certainly see the imagination of cats in our brand – which plays into the story that we put forward.  The way [cats] see the world is very different from how we as people do – it’s a way to bring this to life.”

Addtionally, during The Friskies, each entry, vote, like or share of a video on the Friskies Facebook page will trigger a donation of 5 cans of Friskies to one of 25 cat charity partners, up to 250,000 cans.  At the writing of the post, nearly 200,000 cans have already been donated.

Now, check out this lovely cat video and let us know what you think about The Friskies in the comments below!
