WARNING: Free IPad Mini Messages On Facebook Lead To Malware

By David Cohen

We hate to break this to you, but no one is giving away free iPad Minis on Facebook. So if you receive a message on the social network promising you a free mini-tablet from Apple, it’s malware.

Sophos’ Naked Security reported that the following message is spreading around Facebook, complete with the Apple logo:

Are you a Apple fan ?

The Free iPad mini offer is on.

Go here – [LINK] to get Free iPad mini.

Users who click on the link are victimized by a rogue application, which posts messages to their Facebook walls in their names, encouraging their friends to click for their free iPad Minis, spreading the malware further.

Naked Security’s instructions to victims were:

If you mistakenly installed a rogue app, remove the messages from your timeline, revoke the app’s publishing rights, and report it as spam to Facebook, and ensure that you have revoked its access to your account.
