Fox 4 News Records Fake Hostage Viral Video; Pokes Fun At Facebook, Twitter and More

The Fox 4 news team in Dallas-Forth Worth, Texas took some time out from their serious news personas to make a ROFL-inspiring social media spoof. The bit reflects the ridiculousness of our society’s obsession with social media and is a definite must see!

The Fox 4 social media roast stars members of the news team familiar to Dallas-Fort Worth viewers, including Clarice Tinsley, James Rose, Matt Grubs, Natalie Solis and Sophia Reza. It starts out as a serious “Fox 4 News Alert” piece – there is a hostage situation at City Hall and there’s a gunman on the loose! But the situation quickly dissolves into hilarity. “Fox 4’s Matt Grubs is on the scene, tweeting details to his 87 followers,” and it just gets more and more ridiculous from there. Another News 4 correspondent is inside City Hall, taking a picture of herself with one of the shooting victims with her phone to post to Facebook, an expert being interviewed about police tactics promotes his band’s Myspace page, and another reporter checks in from a shooting scene via Skype.

According to the Dallas Observer, the video was debuted at the Lone Star Emmys and then made its way to Fox 4 News’ Facebook page at the end of last week. The video has been viewed over 138,000 times on YouTube as well and is sure to be viewed many, many more times.

The thing that is so great about this social media spoof is that it is so true to life. It pokes fun at how ridiculous we all are for updating our Twitter statuses, posting pictures to Facebook, obsessing over our hi-tech phones and cameras and more. We don’t share the big news from our personal lives face-to-face or even on the phone anymore – everything is shared via social media, and the News 4 spoof takes this idea to the extreme.
