Foursquare Updates Check-In Pages for Mobile Users

social media, social networks, foursquare, mobile appsFoursquare today launched updated check-in Web pages for mobile users that include all the information about a particular check-in that the user has shared on Twitter or Facebook.

The pages show the address of the venue, any photos accompanying the check-ins, badges and points that stem from it, and comments and likes.

When users share check-ins, Foursquare automatically generates a link for the user’s social contacts to follow. The page that lives at the URL has been updated for mobile users. It was recently updated for desktop users, as well.

The user’s Foursquare friends can comment on his or her check-ins on the Web page. But to learn more about the venue, they must open the Foursquare mobile app.

The move seems to create a Web experience for Foursquare’s social aspects — sharing one’s location with friends, and inviting them comment — while leaving its growing local-search features cordoned off in mobile apps.

In a report that painted a bleak picture of the company, PrivCo said yesterday that it had 20 million members and 5 million daily check-ins.
