Foursquare to Rate Businesses on a Scale of 1 to 10

Foursquare is getting rid of the star ratings system that powers review sites like Yelp, Netflix, and Google Places. Now when users hit the "Explore" tab on Foursquare, they'll see a score between 1 and 10. The change will roll out along with today's iOS update.

Foursquare is getting rid of the star ratings system that powers review sites like Yelp, Netflix, and Google Places. Now when users hit the “Explore” tab on Foursquare, they’ll see a score between 1 and 10.

Explained the Foursquare staff in a blog post:

Instead of other sites where every place gets 3.5 stars, we come up with our scores using the same Foursquare magic that powers Explore. We look at signals like tips, likes, dislikes, popularity, loyalty, local expertise, and nearly 3 billion check-ins from over 25 million people worldwide.
