Facebook Tech Ops Exec Jonathan Heiliger to Depart by End of Summer

After four years leading Facebook’s infrastructure development, vice president of technical operations Jonathan Heiliger is stepping down, according to GigaOm. Having joined Facebook when it had well under 100 million users, he’s overseen the expansion of software, data center and server technology to manage the site’s huge growth over the years — it now has around 700 million monthly active users worldwide.

Among his achievements at Facebook — which he helped bring up to 99.88% uptime in the US so far this year — he successfully advocated for chip manufacturers to develop more web-focused processors, and led the development of Facebook’s first wholly-owned data center, as well as the open-sourcing of its data center and server design, in the Open
