Facebook will guide the shopping decisions of 86.64 million people hitting stores on Black Friday shoppers this year.
Research firm iProspect started with the National Retail Federation’s estimate of 152 million shoppers likely to visit physical stores on the day after Thanksgiving, and from there found:
- 57 percent of shoppers in the United States turn to Facebook or Twitter to stay informed on holiday sales and promotions.
- 67 percent of consumers did research online prior to their purchases during the 2010 holiday season.
- 80 percent of consumers use mobile devices while in stores for further research.
- Comparison engines continue to enjoy a spike in traffic at this time of the year.
According to the NRF, 138 million customers hit the stores on Black Friday 2010, and purchases made on that day accounted for 33 percent of the overall holiday season total.
Retailers on iProspect’s client list include Neiman Marcus, Old Navy, Bass Pro Shops, and Gap.
