Like the Facebook application for your mobile device? Why not go all out and invest in a Facebook phone? Bloomberg claims that Facebook is reportedly working with HTC and could release a Facebook smartphone mid-2013.
It has long been rumored (and denied, and speculated, and planned), but it appears that users might have a Facebook smartphone this time next year. HTC already released the HTC Status and the HTC ChaCha, in 2011, which feature share-to-Facebook buttons. U.K. users have the closest thing to a Facebook phone in the INQ Cloud Touch.
This could be huge for Facebook, which is perpetually finding some way to profit from its sizable mobile membership. Victor Anthony, an analyst at Topeka Capital Markets, explained to Bloomberg what this could mean for Facebook’s bottom line:
Usage is shifting to mobile, and they have not been able to monetize mobile. To the extent that it’s a device you own and carry around with you at all times, and it ties into the Facebook experience, it will be beneficial. They could then put a lot of ads onto the platform.
