What Facebook's Open Graph Tags Mean for Media Outlets and Journalists

Journalists and publishers may see an uptick in their follower counts with the addition of Facebook's Open Graph tags. Including the tags could also increase distribution and engagement, and down the line, the Open Graph could surface additional connections between readers and the media publishers they're interested in. Facebook declined to comment on whether the tags would affect an article's status in the search rankings in the same way that Author Rank does on Google+.

Journalists and publishers may see an uptick in their follower counts with the addition of Facebook’s Open Graph tags.

By adding tags to their website’s HTML, authors and publishers can automatically invite readers to follow them on Facebook without forcing the readers to leave their homepages, as the readers will be see the option to follow a publisher’s Page or an author’s profile in their News Feeds along with article links that their friends are sharing.  (Authors will need to enable following on their profiles for this to work.)
