Joan Courchene Wehrmeyer of Florida married at 17 and soon after had a daughter, Stephanie Phillips. But after a rift between Wehrmeyer and her husband’s family caused a separation, she had not seen her daughter since she was a baby.

Phillips always asked her father about her mother, but was denied any answers.
