Facebook launches Permissions API

Late last week, Facebook announced a new permissions API for the Platform. With the permissions API, one application can grant rights to another application to call API methods on its behalf. While the current release limits access to only a few methods, as more parts of the permissions API get rolled out, more powerful arrangements will become possible.

Facebook’s Vishu Gupta writes,

This API will help applications focus on their core functionality by taking on some work that, while important, is not central to the application’s mission… At this time, the permissions API allows applications to grant others access to three methods under the admin namespace – admin.getAppProperties,
