Greg Maurer will join Facebook’s office in Washington, D.C., as director of public policy, and Susan Gonzales (pictured), who has been working as a full-time consultant for the social network since August, took on the title of head of community engagement.

Maurer will lead outreach efforts to the House of Representatives, working with Manager of Public Policy Chris Herndon.

Director of Public Policy Louisa Terrell and Manager of Public Policy Myriah Jordan currently handle the same tasks for the Senate.

Maurer had been vice president of corporate public affairs at UPS. Prior to that, he served as director of member services for House Republican Leader John Boehner.

Gonzales will create and manage outreach to communities, as well as serving as a liaison to Congress.

Prior to consulting for the social network, Gonzales had been senior director of federal and external affairs for cable giant Comcast, as well as vice president of its charitable arm, the Comcast Foundation.

Diversity has been a major focus of her consulting work with Facebook, as she has worked with members of Congress, caucuses, California state legislators, and Hispanic, African-American, and Asian-American community leaders.

Gonzales is currently a member of U.S. Secretary Ken Salazar’s Task Force for the Partnership for American Great Outdoors, along with serving as vice chairperson of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute and board member of the Congressional Hispanic Leadership Institute and Friends of the American Latino Museum.

Maurer and Gonzales will report to Vice President of U.S. Public Policy and Washington, D.C., office head Joel Kaplan.
