2 In 5 Facebook Users Are Surprised By Friends' Politics
About 40 percent of Facebook users don't know their friends as well as they thought they did, at least their political views, anyway, according to a new poll from the Pew Internet and American Life Project.
Two out of every five Facebook users don’t know their friends as well as they thought they did — or at least not their political views — according to a new poll from the Pew Internet and American Life Project.
The report from Pew shows that’s people Facebook friends tend to reflect more diverse political opinions than homogenous ones.
But that’s not the whole story when it comes to sharing political views online. Here are some more highlights from the Pew study:
- About three quarters of social network users say their friends post at least some political content from time to time;
- About three fourths of these users “only sometimes,” or never agree, with their friends’ postings;
- About one fourth always agree or mostly agree with their friends’ posts;
- When there is a disagreement over politics, they ignore the posts two thirds of the time; and
