Facebook Is Testing Event Suggestions

Facebook continues to test new wrinkles for its events, in this case replacing the friends’ events tab under the homepage’s events bookmark with suggested events.

Suggested events mine data from users’ previous check-ins and combine that information with events that friends are attending and events hosted by pages users have liked, TechCrunch reported.

Suggested events are obviously still in the testing phase, but we see a couple of potential holes: Will users who don’t use check-in tools or use third-party applications like foursquare, and not Facebook places, receive the same quality suggestions as Facebook places users?

Also, friends don’t necessarily share the same interests in music, for example, so the possibility exists that a user’s suggested events will be populated with options that are of no interest to them.
