Facebook today announced the launch of the beta version of the Facebook SDK for Android, which they also demoed at Google I/O last week. This is hot on the heels of the news that the Android platform is picking up steam and in fact outpaced the iPhone platform in sales last month. It looks like app developers are going to be racing to win shares in the still open Android market, and this Facebook API makes it so those applications will be even more powerful.
Facebook will be providing open source tools and example code to hehlp Android developers integrate Facebook into their applications. Think of playing a game on your Android and logging in with Facebook Connect right from your phone. If future Android phones support Flash, think of how you could play games like Farmville directly from your android and have a seamless experience from your home PC to your phone.
Facebook announced that the following features will be available immediately:
- Strong authentication using OAuth 2.0
- Making requests to the new Graph API
- Publishing stories back to Facebook via Feed forms
