Clash of Kings from Elex was named Facebook’s 2015 Game of the Year.

The social network described its selection process in a blog post announcing the winners:

We’ve evolved our approach to Games of the Year over the past decade, focusing on everything from player ratings to pure, data-driven ranking of virality.

What we’ve learned in that time is that there is no one golden approach to choosing the “best” games. Some games have strong retention but don’t grow quickly. Some games grow exponentially in a matter of months but are forgotten within a year. Older games have stronger engagement than younger games; newer games launch across mobile and Facebook.com simultaneously, creating shifts in player engagement.

Other games recognized by Facebook were:

Best Web games:

Best mobile games:

Best Facebook integration:

Best use of Instagram:

Best game ad campaign:

  • Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, Kojima Productions

Best page:

  • League of Legends, Riot Games
