I said at the time: I was quite surprised to find that the app and its contents are available for free.
Well, I was right to be surprised. I received an email note from Dow Jones & Company’s Director of Communications that: …while the new WSJ iPhone app is free, eventually it’s likely to follow the same model as WSJ.com, so we have a consistent experience across mutliple platforms.
I’m interpreting this brief aside as an indication that the app’s contents will eventually shift to a subscription model (think iPhone OS 3.0 time frame). Let’s hope the subscription fee is reasonable!
