Emerging Top Paid iOS Apps: TurboScan, Sonic and Kinectimals

Classic games ruled the paid charts this week, with our iPhone and iPad listings lead by new versions of console games from Rockstar Games and Sega. While Christmas apps haven’t been as prevalent as Halloween themed apps were earlier this year, Lima Sky and 5th Cell got into the Christmas spirit with updates and new versions of their existing games. New Titles on the Top Paid iPhone Apps List Grand Theft Auto III: 10 Year Anniversary Edition - When we reported that Rockstar Games had released the classic PS2 game Grand Theft Auto III for iOS, the game was already the #2 paid iPhone app. Since its release on Thursday, the app has maintained its hold on the #2 spot on the iPhone charts, and thats where we find it today. A faithful PS2 port, the $4.99 game keeps the original’s voice acting, score and open ended gameplay. Kick the Buddy - Casual physics game Kick the Buddy is this week’s #8 paid iPhone app. Updated on November 30th to add episodic content, new elements and decor, developer Dmitriy Glebenok’s Kick the Buddy is a simple game that allows players to work out some stress by submitting a ragdoll to various tortures and mishaps. The game is $0.99 and also includes in-app purchases. Scribblenauts Remix - 5th Cell’s Scribblenauts Remix surges back up the paid charts into the #15 spot after a December 8th update that added new Christmas themed content, voice activated controls for iPhone 4S users and 180 degree rotation support. The app is currently on sale for $0.99 as part of a holiday sale. TurboScan - Utility TurboScan grabs the #26 spot this week. An older app that was last updated on October 18th, the app allows users to use their iPhone’s camera as a scanner, turning documents, receipts, business cards or even illustrations into PDFs or JPGs that can be stored, printed or emailed. TurboScan automatically detects edges, corrects perspective, eliminates shadows and adjusts the contrast. The app is $1.99 and is credited to Tania Sulimov and Pixoft. Doodle Jump Christmas Special - Independent Russian developer Lima Sky gets on the Christmas bandwagon with a new seasonal version of Doodle Jump. Doodle Jump Christmas Special challenges players to guide Doodle all the way to the North Pole, adding new monsters, new powerups and improved graphics to the standard Doodle Jump gameplay. Doodle Jump Christmas Special is $0.99 and is currently the #45 paid iPhone app. New Titles on the Top Paid iPad Apps List Sonic CD - Sega’s classic 1993 entry into the Sonic series, Sonic CD is this week’s new #1 paid iPad app. As with all the previous Sonic games, Sonic must defeat his arch nemesis Dr. Eggman, traveling through time to gather artifacts called Time Stones in this version of the game. The iOS version of the game features Game Center achievements and leaderboards. Sonic CD is $4.99 and was released on December 15th. Kinectimals - Microsoft has softened its stance on rival platforms recently, and the corporation’s most popular IP is beginning to come to IOS. #6 ranked Kinectimals brings the Kinect’s popular VR animal care game to iPhone and iPad. For $2.99, players can name and play with a virtual big cat club. Players that have both the iOS and the Kinect version of the game can unlock five new breeds of cat cubs on their consoles by playing the iOS version. Trenches II for iPad - EA’s latest game Trenches II lands in the #20 spot on the paid charts. Developed for EA by Thunder Game Works, the game is a side-scrolling military themed war game. Players can choose to play as the British, Germans or French in single player mode, or represent their country of choice in the game’s global multiplayer mode. Trenches II was released on December 15th and costs $2.99. It’s a Small World - Disney’s iPad storybook version of its classic Disneyland ride, It’s A Small World is this week’s #29 paid app. For $3.99, users get to go on an animated, interactive version of the ride. It’s A Small World was released on December 6th. Ice Rage - Last but not least, independent developer Mountain Sheep closes out the paid charts this week in the #31 spot with its brand new game Ice Rage. A hockey game in the eight-bit style, Ice Rage is a top down, cartoony game that features 9 playable characters and has three difficulty settings. While the game does not support online multiplayer, two people can play at the same time on one iPad. Ice Rage was released on December 14th and costs $0.99.
