Emerging Top Paid iOS Apps: Djinnworks, Orangenose Studios and Ayopa's W.E.L.D.E.R

This week’s paid apps charts finally banished monsters and zombies, with almost every Halloween-themed app released in October seeing rapid declines in popularity and dropping off the charts. In their absence, older apps from Orangenose Studios, Djinnworks and Firemint found renewed strength and new, high profile releases from Highline Games and Bit Blot also made strong debuts. New Titles on the Top iPhone Paid Apps List Crafted - First up on the paid iPhone charts this week is Crafted. Created by independent developer Dominik Pickl, aka Domp, Crafted bills itself as a 2D open world game where the main goal is to build, mine and survive the night, but what it really is, is a 2D version of Minecraft. Incredibly, Crafted uses the same textures, sounds, branding, mechanics and design as Mojang’s game, copying the gameplay exactly. This is the second time in as many weeks a game has made it to the top of the iOS charts using the IP of a bigger studio. Crafted is currently the #4 paid iOS app, and costs $0.99, but as Minecraft creator Markus Persson knows about Crafted, it remains to be seen how long it will remain in the App store. GarageBand - In the #12 spot on the iPhone paid app charts is Apple’s popular music program GarageBand. Previously only available for the iPad, last week GarageBand was converted into a universal app for iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch. The $4.99 iPhone version of GarageBand allows users to create their own songs, using dozens of virtual instruments controlled through a multi-touch interface. Hardest Game Ever - 0.02s PRO - If you find the average level of Angry Birds just takes too long to play, this week’s #16 app, Hardest Game Ever - 0.02s PRO may be the game you are looking for. A collection of “microgames”, the $0.99 app lets users to test their reflexes and reaction time with challenges like catching eggs before they hit the floor. Hardest Game Ever - 0.02s PRO was created by Taiwanese developer Orangenose Studios and released on September 14th. Rope’n’Fly - From Dusk Till Dawn - Occupying the #18 spot this week is Rope’n’Fly - From Dusk Till Dawn. Created by Austrian independent developers Robert Szeleney and Heiko Hufnagl, aka Djinnworks, the game challenges players to swing a destructible ragdoll from one skyscraper to another. The game has online and offline leaderboards, supports OpenFeint and GameCenter achievements, and allows players to get additional ropes and characters through in-app purchases. Rope’n’Fly - From Dusk Till Dawn is currently on sale for $0.99. (Update) SPY Mouse - Closing out the paid iPhone charts in the #38 spot is EA owned Australian developer Firemint Studios’ SPY Mouse. In the stealth-influenced puzzle game, players guide a mouse named Agent Squeak through various environments as they attempt to steal cheese without being spotted by cats. SPY Mouse was updated on November 3rd to add global leaderboards powered by EA’s Origin network and five new challenges. The game costs $0.99 and also offers a $0.99 in-app purchase that clears any level of cats. New Titles on the Top iPad Paid Apps List W.E.L.D.E.R. - The iPad charts have a new #1 app this week - W.E.L.D.E.R., a word game created by startup developer Highline Games and published by Ayopa Games. Combining elements from Scrabble, Words with Friends, crossword puzzles and Bejeweled, W.E.L.D.E.R. is a unique multiplayer word puzzle game that is currently on sale for $1.99. Our full review of the game can be read here. Aquaria - Bit Blot’s award wining game Aquaria is this week’s #10 paid iPad app, and Apple’s featured iPad game of the week. Originally released for Windows in 2007, but since ported to Mac, Linux, and now iOS, Aquaria is a 2D adventure game that follows the adventures of Naija, a mermaid with no memories as she explores a vast, open-ended underwater world. Aquaria was ported to iOS by Austin based Semi Secret Software and costs $4.99. Dora Hops into Phonics! HD - In the #13 spot is the educational app Dora Hops into Phonics! HD. The third entry in Nickelodeon’s Literacy suite, the app is designed to teach young children how to read. In the app, children must guide Dora across Water Lily Lake by spelling out words or changing letters within existing words to form new ones. The app the also includes minigames, tutorials, 5 levels of gameplay and full voiceovers. Dora Hops into Phonics! HD was released by MTV Networks on October 22nd and costs $2.99. Greed Corp HD - Moving all the way down to the #33 spot is another new game, Greed Corp HD. A steam punk styled, turn-based strategy game that started life on Xbox Live Arcade, Greed Corp HD allows players to choose from one of four different factions as they fight for dominance of an alien planet. The game features 36 maps, leaderboards, trophies and up to four person multiplayer. Greed Corp was originally developed by Vanguard Games, but it was ported to iPad by Invictus Games. The game was released on November 2nd and costs $4.99. Crayola Paint & Create - Finally in the #45 spot is Crayola Paint and Create, a digital coloring and activity book developed by Nashville based Griffin Technology. Just like the activity books children still use today, Crayola Paint & Create features more than 40 different activities such as puzzles, mazes and connect-the-dots, but also adds sound effects and animations to the mix and even allows proud parents to share their children’s creations via email and Facebook. Crayola Paint & Create was released on October 17th and costs $3.99.
