To those folks who ask you “what’s Twitter?” (your mom) or “what’s so interesting over there?” (usually Facebook people) or for those friends who just need to see what a tweet looks like before making the leap, you can now show them what the hubbub is about, thanks to a new feature headed your way: The ability to email your tweets to those non-tweople.
In what appears to be a pretty smart (and bold) marketing move on Twitter’s part, it announced today that users will soon have the ability to email their tweets to folks you aren’t “yet” on Twitter:
. . . you can retweet any of these [funny, interesting tweets] to your Twitter followers, but sometimes you want to share with another group, like your college roommates or your parents or a friend who isn’t yet on Twitter. [Bold ours.]
This ability to email your tweets from Twitter.com is rolling out over the coming weeks. The option will be on a “More” icon next to reply, retweet and favorite (which leads us to believe there will be “more” than just emailing available).
AND “You can add your own comment, and we’ll send an email with your comment and the Tweet together. Just like that.”
Here’s what it will look like from your end:
The email comes from Twitter; recipients cannot reply. But they ARE invited to sign up for their own Twitter account so they can get in on the fun.
Bet you can’t wait to use this feature, hmm?
