Spotify Celebrates Elvis With Two Interactive Web Apps

By Karen Fratti

the-elvis-influence 600x300In honor of The King’s would-be 80th birthday, Spotify has created a few web apps to celebrate his music and his influence.

Firstly, there’s “The Elvis Influence,” an audiovisualization where you can type in any artists’ name to see how they are connected musically to Elvis. Try to stump it; The Grateful Dead influenced Elvis Costello who was influenced by Elvis. Rita Ora is similar to Jessie J who was influenced by Pink who was…well, you get the point. Elvis had some reach. It’s like that Kevin Bacon game but more fun.

For real data geeks, there’s the Elvisualization where you can see more clearly how artists like even Mobb Deep or No Doubt connect to the legend. Spotify has also culled data from listeners to discern the most popular Elvis songs out there. In a statement they write:

From an analysis of the listening habits of its 50 million users, Spotify reveals the most popular Elvis tracks globally are Suspicious MindsJailhouse Rock and In The Ghetto. By looking at the average streaming frequency of Elvis songs by country, Spotify can also reveal that Chile boasts the biggest Elvis fans, followed by Brazil, Argentina, Netherlands and Iceland.
