eReader Shipments Slow As Tablets Gain: Digitimes Research

According to new research from Digitimes Research, global shipments of eReaders are predicted to reach 2 million units in the first quarter of 2012, which is down from 9 million, which shipped during the fourth quarter of 2011.

According to the research, the growth of tablets is hurting eReader sales. Digitimes has more: “The launch of Amazon’s Kindle Fire tablet PCs has resulted in a substitution effect for Kindle e-book readers, pushing Amazon to reduce its orders for e-book readers from upstream suppliers since the beginning of 2012.”
